This article is the fourth of ten tips for reducing taxes during the summer.
Tip 4: Summer Day Camp
Working parents should consider sending their young children to day camp while school is out. Assuming certain requirements are met, the cost may qualify for a dependent care credit. Generally, the maximum credit is $600 for one child and $1,200 for two or more kids. Note that specialty day camps for athletics or arts qualify for this break; however, overnight camps do not qualify. Unlike deductions, tax credits lower your tax liability dollar for dollar, which reduces the amount of income that is taxed.
